An empirical formula development to predict suspended sediment load for Khour Al-Zubair port, South of Iraq

Abstract A new formula for determining the suspended sediment load in Khour Al-Zubair port has been proposed using dimensional analysis. Six cross-sections have identified at Basrah province, South of Iraq purpose conducting field measurements during two tidal periods (Neap and Spring). The study involved taking hydraulic fluid properties, sampling by section every 2 h to get effective parameters used developing empirical formula. These include density ( ρ s ), mean velocity V radius R fall particle W median grain size d 50 salinity water S level L width estuary B specific gravity G maximum flow depth D max kinematics viscosity ν ). was developed statistical analysis SPSS program method. good agreement between loads computed suggested observed data attained based on correlation coefficient value = 0.97). results showed that average total is 1288285.464 tons/year.
